Help for Families

Transforming Hunger Into Hope for Wichita Families

Every week, families across Wichita face an impossible choice. Pay the bills or put food on the table. Union Rescue Mission Wichita’s Community Outreach Program exists to make sure no family has to face that moment alone. Through free weekly food boxes and the care of trained counselors, we bring practical help and lasting hope to those who need it most.

Hunger Doesn’t Only Touch the Homeless

It’s easy to assume that food insecurity only affects those without a roof over their heads. The reality is far more widespread.

They are the working poor, stretching a paycheck that was never quite enough. They are single mothers putting their children to bed and wondering what tomorrow’s meals will look like. They are senior citizens on fixed incomes, choosing between groceries and medication month after month. They are disabled individuals whose circumstances leave little room for error.

These are your neighbors. And they are who we show up for every single week.

Who We Serve

Our Community Outreach Program is designed to meet families where they are and walk alongside them through difficulty. We serve:

young family in need of meal assistance

Struggling families with children

who are living on the edge and need consistent, reliable support

single mother with her kids

Single mothers with young children

carrying the full weight of their family's needs

senior man receiving assistance from urm wichita

Senior citizens on fixed incomes

who can no longer make their dollars stretch far enough

Working poor and disabled persons

who are doing everything right but still can't make ends meet

If you or someone you love is facing food insecurity, you do not have to face it alone.

More Than a Food Box

Each week, Union Rescue Mission Wichita distributes free food boxes to families across our community. But what we offer goes beyond groceries. Alongside every food box, our trained counselors take time to sit with each family — to listen, to encourage, and to share the Good News of the Gospel and the Plan of Salvation.

We believe that physical hunger and spiritual hunger are both real — and both worthy of a compassionate response. Every family that comes through our doors is met with dignity, care, and the kind of hope that transforms lives from the inside out.

Your donation makes this possible. Your generosity doesn’t just stock a pantry — it transforms a family’s story.
